Custom Noble Contour Fence and Arena in Hayden, Idaho
Making Everything Look Planned
The house, shop, and yard area were already in place, and the fence needed to work its way around all of them. Our job as the fence builder was to leave the existing buildings exactly where they were and figure out how to tie everything together.
The buildings and property weren't perfectly square or straight, but the finished fence still needed to look like it was all planned as one cohesive layout. That's where careful planning and experience really make a difference.
A Custom Noble Arena
The arena was built with Noble Arena Panels, using the same Gatorshield galvanized, high-tensile, high-carbon steel used in the Noble Contour system.
Our customer wanted the arena shorter than the standard height, so we had the legs manufactured shorter.
That's one of the advantages of working with this particular supplier. They can accommodate a number of custom requests like this without an additional charge.
The result was a custom arena that fit the property and the customer's preferences rather than simply using an off-the-shelf configuration.
Built for Dogs, Too
The customers also wanted to be able to let their dogs out in the yard.
We had several of the gates built as mesh gates, and later they added basic wire to portions of the yard fence for additional containment.
It was another example of making the fence work for how the property would actually be used.
Fence and Landscaping: What Goes First?
In this case, the yard space was defined when we built the fence and then the landscapers came back and finished it out. You definitely want to plan ahead and think through the order of your fence and landscaping installation.
Ideally, the ground should be graded first, and then the fence should be installed at the appropriate height above grade.
As a general starting point, if sod is the only thing to be placed above the ground, you can set your fence about 1½ inches above grade to allow for the sod.
But there's another important consideration: the fence should be smooth and consistent.
Sometimes it's easier to make the fence flow correctly than it is to make the ground perfectly consistent beforehand. For the best results, once the fence is installed, you can come back and make any additional grading adjustments needed to get the final elevations right.
Then finish the landscaping with sprinklers, sod, bark, and everything else.
Rough grade first → fence above grade → final grading → landscaping.
That approach is likely to produce the cleanest finished result.
Bringing the Property Together
This project was another great example of what can happen when a husband and wife have a vision for their dream property and work closely with our fence planners and installers to make it happen.
The house, shop, yard, fence lines, gates, and arena all had to work together.
By carefully planning the details and adapting the fence to the existing property, we were able to tie everything together into a finished fence that complimented a beautiful North Idaho Property.
