A Creative Solution for a Unique Challenge
A Custom 5-Rail Fence
Our customer needed a fence that was:
- Tall enough to keep dogs and people from easily jumping over
- Close enough to the ground to keep his dog from easily crawling underneath
- Beautiful enough to complement the cabin and property
A standard four-rail Buckley fence wasn't quite going to accomplish all three. So we developed a custom five-rail version.
This isn't something I would recommend trying without significant experience with the fence system. But after building as much fence as we have, Jacob was confident we could make it happen.
We ordered the additional grommets, spacers, and other components needed to turn the standard four-rail system into a five-rail fence.
Custom 5-Rail Gates
The trickiest part was figuring out how to turn Buckley's beautiful four-rail gates and hinge system into five-rail gates.
Jacob flew down from Idaho, while Scott drove up from Hallettsville, Texas, and the two worked through the details together.
We ordered in a third 12-foot gate and with the help of a local fabrication shop, we were able to create two beautiful custom five-rail Buckley gates.
It was a great example of taking a standard product and finding a way to make it work for a unique application.
Experience Meets Ingenuity
The project wasn't without its challenges. We hit some rock, and there were plenty of details that had to be worked out along the way.
Scott and Jacob came through on each one.
Even after Jacob had to fly home, Scott returned to finish the project when the final batch of materials arrived. The finishing touches included solar lights on every other post, which gave the completed fence an especially nice look around the cabin.
Making the Customer's Vision a Reality
This project is a great example of what can happen when you combine a good fence product with experience, creativity, and a customer who's willing to work with you to find the right solution.
The customer had a specific vision for the property, and instead of settling for a standard fence, we worked together to figure out how to make it happen.
The result was 500 feet of custom five-rail Buckley Steel Board fence that solved the practical challenges while looking right at home around the cabin.
