This 2,000-foot Buckley Steel Board fence project on San Juan Island was a great example of what’s possible with careful planning—even when a project is too far away for an in-person site visit.
Planning From a Distance
We started planning months before installation. Because of the distance, we conducted a live video walkthrough with the homeowners to map out the property, determine the fence layout, and decide where gates should go.
We spent considerable time refining the plan before installation and ordered extra material to make sure the remote location wouldn't create delays if we came up short.
Refining the Fence On-Site
When Jacob, our installation lead, arrived, the team was able to fine-tune the layout in person. They adjusted the fence to follow the property naturally, incorporating beautiful curves that made the finished project feel intentional and fit the acreage.
Solving Unexpected Challenges
A portion of the fence bordered a neighbor's property with small animals, so we determined that black chain link would be the best solution for that section. We were able to source the additional material and install it while we were already on-site.
The summer tourist season also made ferry logistics more challenging, but our customers were extremely helpful in coordinating everything needed to get the crew and materials to the island.
A Fence the Neighbors Loved
The homeowners told us they love the finished fence and wish they had done it sooner.
The project even led to another opportunity—the neighbor liked the fence so much that he asked us to build an entrance for his property while we were still on the island.
A beautiful result, made possible by detailed planning, good communication, and a willingness to adapt when the project required it.
